| The latest word on the street has it that developers currently creating games for the forthcoming Sony PSP handheld are being instructed by Sony to kindly consider battery life when programming their wares. Best estimates currently suggest the PSP will enjoy a healthy 10-hours of audio playback, but a slightly disappointing 2-hours of gaming. The latest development toolset for the system apparently included a battery emulator with this situation in mind; allowing developers to check how long their game will last on a single charge. Quite what longevity Sony are aiming for by forcing developers to adapt and economise on battery-wasting activities like disc access, is unknown. However it is believed the firm may be waiting for word on games like Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Acid before making battery life recommendations to developers. Hopefully, this technical necessity won't constrain game makers too much, though we do fear that larger game worlds (a la GTA) may be hindered by this decision. More as we get it. |
