Stay away from it!

If you're thinking of buying a cheap digital camera, steer clear of the polaroid PDC series of camera. Polaroid might have been a reputable brand back in the 70's with the instant photography market but now they're just a little fish in a sea of terribly made digital cameras.

The camera comes with 4 x AAA batteries that will be eaten up after a few hours of use with the flash, a wrist strap (that broke), a carry pouch (that also broke) USB cable and driver CD.

The camera has 8MB of memory on board which is sufficient to take about 7 happy snaps at full quality. The camera is quite slow at taking pictures (After you hit the shutter button, it takes about 2 seconds to actually take the picture, in which time, the screen goes blank). It will also record a minute or so of low quality video with audio or a few minutes of low quality audio.

Forget about using the inbuilt flash on this unit, it will either make everything look extremely white or not be powerful enough depending on the situation. With indoor use, even with a fair amount of lighting, pictures appear grainy and full of artifacts.

The 3x digital zoom is terrible which starts to pixelate the picture badly even at 1.1x magnification. It has a port for the heavily outdated SmartMedia Card (SMC) system which will allow it to take up to 128MB of memory. (You cannot use the on board memory with the SMC inserted)

When connecting to the PC, it takes ages to start up. When it does work, sometimes it freezes and the files cannot be downloaded from the unit. As a PC Webcam it's pretty much standard/ Very dark and grainy when used with indoor ligting.

In conclusion I would have to say that this unit is nothing more than a glorified SMC reader. 0.5 Stars / 5
