| The first time I used Linux was nearly 5yrs back, I installed Redhat 6.3 and had a very tough time installing it, phew! I even deleted my windows partition by mistake during partition and had to take the beatings from my brother :) ... Linux has come along a long way since then and is now one of the best OS's. One thing that Linux had gained along the years was its user friendliness. Now to the point why iam writing this :) First of all let me tell what's good about Linux? What else can make a person happier? If someone told u he was giving you a diamond for free wouldn't you jump at him and take it? Yep! Don’t think I am bluffing here telling you to compare an Operating system like Linux with a Diamond. Myself being in Asia, know, how one feels when he is asked to pay more for a software than his PC actually costs him... I can have a bet that more than 60% of the PC's have pirated software installed on them, which is really a sad story. They are willing to take chances against the law only because someone told them that "This s/w rocks dude" and they merely agree without another word. They forget that something which is free can also be very valuable. Best things in life come free. This being a fact can never be changed. There are hardly a bunch of viruses that can infect Linux, compared to the thousands of them found on other OS's. One can also reduce this virus attack if you are not logged in as Administrator [root]. Gone are the days when people used to complain that they could not find the right drivers for their devices. A few years back that might have been the case, but now believe me there are drivers for everything you name. My digicam, palmtop, AGP card etc. had their drivers come along with the installation cd's. I even found a driver for my Winmodem and now happily surf the net without any Trojans or viruses affecting me. If i were to leave out the s/w that comes along with the Distros , then I wouldn't be doing justice. Any software u dream of is available in Linux. image capture, printing, cd burning, chatting [ GAIM & Kopete , my favorite messengers can login simultaneously to nearly 8 chat engines at a time including msn and yahoo]. If you are talking about games, then u've got an unbelievable collection. And what else can you say ,for techy geeks like myself, one can find everything like compiler, debugger, front end developer[ QT and Glade ], httpd server by Apache , java machine , phew! and what not. The list goes endless.... All I have to say is that Linux is gonna make big soon and you better catch up with it "OR BE LEFT OUT OF THE FUTURE" |
