Asus P4G8X Deluxe (Intel E7205 Granite Bay) MotherboardThe Asus P4G8X is one of the most productive platforms to date. It features rich expansivity options (SerialATA, Gigabite Ethernet, BlueMagic) as well as a formidable pack of Asustek's own technologies (Asus Q-Fan, POST Reporter, CrashFree BIOS).  The rich package bundle having all the necessary cables and brackets merits a separate mention.  At the same time, I can't help noting the lack of integrated RAID controller. There are merely 5 PCI slots on the P4G8X. And finally the price as high as $250 doesn't add popularity to this board, but remember that the Gigabyte's Granite Bay board was announced at just the same price, and Gigabyte's boards have always been by 10-15% as cheaper than Asus'. The high price for Granite Bay is made up of the high release price for the chipset and is attributed to the 6-layered PCB design.

People will simply yell with joy tampering with this board - it offers a really powerful feature-set: the mix of raising the processor voltage up to 1.975V with the FSB speed adjustable within unbeatable ranges makes this board one of the best and attractive overclocking platforms.

But the most important advantage of Asus P4G8X is the superb performance level that leaves the other i845PE/GE-based motherboards well behind.

Conclusion

Pros:

  • Excellent performance;
  • Support for SerialATA (2 channels);
  • Integrated 6.1 audio and LAN (Gigabit Ethernet);
  • Support of USB2.0 (6 ports) and IEEE-1394 (Firewire, 2 ports);
  • Rich package bundle;
  • Support for HyperThreading processors;
  • A wide selection of Asus' own technologies (Q-Fan; CrashFree BIOS etc.).

Cons:

  • RAID controller missing.

The board's specific features:

  • BlueMagic slot;
  • To make the most of performance, at least two memory modules are required.
