| The Volkswagen Touareg is a luxury practical family 4x4 and is not only great on the road but off it as well. Air conditioning, alloy wheels and a CD player are also fitted as standard specification across the VW Touran range. This is a great choice for people with different needs; on one hand it is a great buy for a family with its solid body and great performance whilst on the other hand the Touareg is a great choice for...well just about everyone else. If it's a responsive, solid, luxurious and great performing 4x4 your after then the Touareg is the ideal choice. The new Touareg offers another innovation in terms of drive technology: the first eight cylinder direct injection gasoline-powered engine from Volkswagen. The Touareg's new V8 FSI achieves 257 kW / 350 PS and generates maximum torque of 440 Nm. The other two gasoline engines generate 206 kW / 280 PS (V6 FSI) and 331 kW / 450 PS (W12). In addition, there are three direct injection diesel-powered engines for the Touareg, all combined with a particle filter (DPF) as standard equipment. The TDIs have output of 128 kW / 174 PS (TDI), 165 kW / 225 PS (V6 TDI) and 230 kW / 313 PS (V10 TDI). Even if you never leave the pavement, the Volkswagen Touareg should satisfy. The V6 is no longer the runt of the group and provides acceleration just about equal to that of the V8. The top dog is, of course, the V10 TDI. It's surprisingly quiet and posts the best fuel economy of the three engines. The Touareg's ride quality is smooth and stable, and although heavy, the Volkswagen SUV feels agile around corners, particularly when equipped with the air suspension. Taken off-road, the Touareg amazes as it tackles steep passes and deep ruts normally reserved for rough-and-tumble Jeeps.
