| I recently purchased the RCA Lyra RD1021A from a local computer store and I would have to say it's my most wise purchase yet. It comes with 64mb of space built in and allows for easy upgrades using memory cards (SD and MMC). I figured I would only be able to use it in Windows so I booted up and installed all the software. It came with MusicMatch, which I really didn't like and that had problems. I finally just used Windows Explorer to drag the mp3's over to the drive. Windows was able to detect the mp3 player via USB and set it up as a portable hard drive. It can store any filetype, but only plays MP3, MP3Pro, and WMA files. I was able to store some websites on it to take to a few clients. It was awesome. Later I tried to find out if I could use it under Vmware, but it reported that it couldn't use it because my OS was using it. I found out that Linux detects it as a USB Mass Media device. I mounted it from /dev/sda1 to /mnt/lyra and was able to transfer music to it and everything. So this device is multi platform friendly. The sound quality is extremely great too. The headphones included were the best I've ever used. To be honest I usually use dollar store headphones, or the ones I got with my Rio 600. The battery life is great too! It uses a single AAA battery and I've been listening to it every day to work and it hasn't died on me yet. I recommend this MP3 Player to anyone who is looking for a good player that stores files and will run on Linux. When I got it I was unaware of both and I'm lucky the RIO S10 was out of stock :) Be prepared to see more of my reviews here :) |
