Phison USB Flash Memory Drives

Phison USB Drives are very reliable, hardly break down and are made by Phison Electronics Corp., a member of the Flash memory alliance. They look OK, but not as good as other drives made by companies like SanDisk and Sony. The drives come with a driver and manual CD, with drivers for Windows 98, manuals for using and troubleshooting the device, and the USB Disk Pro security application for their Security range.

On the drive itself, there are the following utilities:

  • PenMail - an email application that stores the data on your drive,

  • SecretZip - a Zip and encryption utility,

  • Make Bootable - copies DOS files to your drive and makes it bootable (for me it doesn't work)

  • PCLock - locks the PC when the drive is removed, unlocks it when it is reinserted,

  • Autorun - has a guide on making Autorun.inf files, and a utility program (I don't know what it does)

The included manuals document the utilities quite well, but they are written in *relatively* bad English.

The drive is also available with Security, and the Security drives are formatted to have a 1.44MB floppy partition and the rest of it as an encryptable partition.

Inside (I haven't looked but the manuals say this) there are several jumpers, that can be used to reformat the drive to its initial state.
