| Nokia introduced its next generation widescreen Nseries multimedia computer, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. Combining a personal Internet experience, the N800 offers easy wireless connections, high-resolution display and support for a wide variety of Internet applications.
The N800 bears a high resemblance to its older sibling, the 770. Key changes include: addition of a VGA-resolution web cam; microphone moved to a more phone-friendly position; two full-size SD card slots, instead of a single RS-MMC slot; built-in stereo speakers, instead of a single speaker; scroll rocker for web page scrolling; redesigned top-mounted buttons and 5-way cursor pad; built-in stand; and a few mechanical tweaks.
The N800 measures 5.7 x 3.0 x 0.5 inches and weighs 7.3 ounces, as compared with 5.5 x 3.1 x 0.7 inches and 8.1 ounce for the 770. The 4.1-inch touchscreen display retains the much-praised 800 x 480 pixels resolution of the earlier model.
The Nokia N800 has two memory slots that support a range of memory cards (SD, miniSD, microSD, MMC and RS-MMC). This allows you to keep one card in the device for a more permanent storage solution, and still have a slot available for cards from your camera or other device. With the falling price of memory cards, you could have several cards with music and videos tucked away in the carrying case that comes with the N800.
The N800 supports a wide range of audio and video formats. Supported audio formats are AAC, AMR, MP2, MP3, RA (Real Audio), WAV, WMA. You can play videos in the following formats: 3GP, AVI, H.263, MPEG-1, MPEG-4, RV (Real Video), and Flash Video. That covers just about anything you’d ever want to play on a media device. With the open nature of the N800’s OS, more codec support can be expected from 3rd party developers. You can also use the N800 with Real’s Rhapsody music service (if you prefer your music with DRM). You can even stream audio and video from networked computers.
