|  The Meizu M6 miniPlayer is a newcomer to the US MP3 player market. This thin flash player comes in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB sizes to match the other players in its class: the Nano, Z5, e200, clix, and other slim high capacity flash players. This player has most of the bases covers in terms of audio codecs, including MP3, WMA, OGG, and WMA. On the video side, the miniPlayer uses XviD convertible with off the shelf software. This player has a solid set of fairly standard features with surprisingly great sound that has a killer low end.
The M6 is the most recent of Meizu's digital audio player productions. Accordingly, it is only emerging in certain parts of the world including the United States. Though the M6 supports many audio formats, the US release did not support MP3 format because of licensing issues. Apparently, there are work-arounds to the issue with specific firmware upgrades.
Recently, Dane-Elec has formed a deal with Meizu to provide distribution of the M6. Apparently, Dane-Elec has ironed out MP3 licensing issues. Many European models distributed by Dane-Elec have their FM tuner disabled because of EU import duties; this can also be remedied by a firmware update.
Amongst those who own or are aware of the M6 is a great deal of enthusiasm and support. The M6 has been touted as an "iPod Killer" because of its capabilities with respect to its aesthetics. One unique characteristic regarding the Meizu M6 is its ability to function without proprietary file formats and procedures.
Meizu’s M6 mini player looks and acts very much like an iPod nano, right down to its touch-sensitive click pad. It boasts a reasonably large 2.4 inch 260,000 color QVGA screen, set in landscape mode, and has the same white (or black) plastic front, and brushed metal back as the iPod family of players. The player comes in 1GB, 2GB and 4GB sizes, and is a flash player, like the iPod nano. Meizu rates battery life at 20 hours, and we got about 17 on average.
