| I was a dedicated Microsoft product user for many years. In fact I continue to beta test their products. About 3 years agao I began to experiment with a number of Linux distros but had neither the time or support to really become proficient. I stopped using Linux completely. Then one day I stumbled onto Knoppix 3.0. I was intregued by the idea that you could run an OS completely from CD. I was pretty skeptical and thought that it would be some minimal GUI with a few minor applications. To my suprise I found an operating system that was easy to manage, that connect immediately, to the internet, that connected to my Windows network, that was safe to use, that had a full featured Office Suite and CD Burning software. Since then I have used Knoppix as a troubleshooting tool, a companion to take with me on the road when I need to use a computer but don't want to leave my finger print on that system, and I've used Knoppix to enhance my knowledge about Linux in general. I recoomed it to many of my friends some of whom are Microsoft MVPs. I think it is an excellent starting point for people who want to dabble in Linux and a robust and elegant tool for those who need a powerful OS at their finger tips. |
