| The Accord Coupe Concept revealed at the Detroit Auto Show represents the look and design of the new eight-generation Accord set to hit the streets in the next few months. Since its introduction in 1976, some 9.5 million units of Honda’s flagship have been sold, and it is frequently Honda’s best selling model year after year. With that kind of responsibility, a redesign is a tricky thing. For 2008, Honda appears to be taking a step away from its typically conservative styling with the Accord Coupe Concept. With a lot of eye-catching competition such as the Saturn Aura, it’s an important move for Honda to keep the Accord the most desired car in its class.
The Accord Coupe Concept will convey exterior styling cues and design features that provide a first look at the direction the next-generation Accord will take and it promises to set a new benchmark for Accord and for the segment. The Accord is Honda's best selling model in North America, and this vehicle's debut at NAIAS will mark the first time an Accord concept car has ever been shown at a major auto show.
The styling of the Accord Coupe Concept conveys a powerful stance through its long hood, deeply sculpted lower body and fastback roofline. A six-sided grille and projector headlamps that recess deep into the front fenders contribute to an unmistakable and aggressive front fascia. Quad exhaust outlets integrated into the rear diffuser further convey performance and style beyond any Accord to date.
A more powerful and lower-emissions V6 engine will provide higher fuel efficiency with the incorporation of Honda's next-generation Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology. Honda leads the industry with the highest Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) rating for any full line manufacturer* of 29.2 miles per gallon - well above the industry average of 25.3 miles per gallon.
