Giugiaro Mustang review

Giugiaro Mustang

Giugiaro MustangFord has revealed its Giugiaro Mustang Concept ahead of its official launch at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The car is supposed to resemble the design direction Ford will be taking with the Mustang in three years. The Giugiaro Mustang Concept has scissor-doors and a glass roof. The powertrain upgrades give the Giugiaro Mustang an estimated 500 horsepower. We see a hint of some German styling in the front with BMW 6-Series-like headlights.

Horse-hide interior. Huge glass roof. Carbon-fiber fenders. Electrically operated scissor doors. Even if you forget about the voluptuously resculpted sheetmetal, it's clear this isn't a typical Mustang.

Reinterpreted by Giorgetto Giugaro, his son Fabrizio, and the rest of the highly skilled designers at the famed Giugaro design works in Turin, this 'Stang represents an impressive blend of American muscle and Italian design. To create the car's unique look, Giugaro pulled the body panels in as tight as they could go, reduced the rear overhang, and widened the car by 1.2 inches in the front and 3.1 inches at the back. The result is a beautiful fastback that fills our heads with images of early-'70s Boss Mustangs.

Ford Racing has gone over the 4.6-litre V8 engine, fitting a supercharger, fuel injectors as in the Ford GT supercar, a larger mass air meter and new air filter, and a modified exhaust and radiator system; power is upped from 300bhp to an estimated 500bhp. The Ford Racing Handling Pack - an option for the production Mustang GT - is added, with tuned suspension dampers, lowered springs and anti-roll bars, giving a ride height lowered by 1.5".
