Cowon iAudio F2 review

Cowon iAudio F2

Cowon iAudio F2Cowon’s new iAudio F2 MP3 player looks just like a cell phone… but don’t expect to take calls with it. The player supports MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG and FLAC file formats, all of which can be uploaded to the device by way of its USB 2.0 port. You can also store photos and XviD movies, which can be viewed on the F2’s 1.3-inch color LCD display.

This Cowon’s new iAudio F2 model is certainly neat measuring just 34.8 x 72.9 x 16.7mm and weighing only 40 grams it easily out Nanos the iPod Nano in terms of style and form. It looks more like the kind of mobile that Benq and Siemens have been trying to produce for the last 2 years than an MP3 player. The 1.3" LCD screen while smallish is very bright and colourful and used to good effect by the Cowon firmware. With the Cowon F2 firmly in your mitts you feel more like an extra on star trek than an ordinary commuter on the London Tube, admiring and inquisitive glances from fellow travellers confirm that the F2 is the must have piece of tech right now.

the iAudio F2 supports a variety of audio files, including MP3, WMA DRM, OGG, and FLAC. It even plays subscription tracks and works really well within Rhapsody 4. The F2 has superb audio quality, and the presence of strong preset and customizable EQs and BBE effects makes sound quality a nonissue. The device is also a decent line-in, voice and FM recorder (128Kbps WMA max). The FM radio with its 24 presets works well, though there is no autoscan option. However, you can schedule the player for FM recordings.

Hitting the OK button during playback will get you to your music list. By the way, the player has both UMS (so it will work with Mac) and MTP modes, and files can be viewed both in folder-tree Explorer style or broken down by ID3 tags (browse by album, for example). Cowon users would benefit if the context menu button included more shortcuts to say, the equalizer. Instead, you can customize the menu and record button (when held down) to activate EQ, shuffle, bookmark, and other functions.
