Chevrolet Silverado review

2007 Chevrolet Silverado

2007 Chevrolet SilveradoChevy Silverado Classic continues its reign with a powerful, available Vortec Max 6.0L V8 engine with more torque than a Dodge HEMI and more towing capability than any half-ton competitor.(1) A muscular front-end design with an aggressive powerdome hood. And a broad model lineup that includes Regular, Extended and Crew Cab options. Silverado. From the family of Chevy Trucks -- the most dependable, longest-lasting trucks on the road.

2007 Silverado model includes the Silverado Half-Ton, Silverado Hybrid, Silverado SS, Silverado 1500HD, Silverado 2500HD and Silverado 3500.

Through its ability to automatically stop and restart the engine under different operating circumstances the Silverado 1500 Hybrid Classic offers up to a 10-percent fuel economy improvement. Hybrid pickups use a compact, 14 kW electric inductions motor or starter generator integrated in a patented, space-efficient manner between the engine and transmission. The starter generator provides fast, quiet starting power and allows automatic engine stops/starts to conserve fuel. It also smoothes out any driveline surges; generates electrical current to charge the batteries and run auxiliary power outlets; and provides coast-down regenerative braking, as an aid to fuel economy.

The all-new Silverado has a broad, chiseled face, which accents a broad-shouldered stance and gives the Silverado a powerful, muscular presence. The front-end appearance is unique to Silverado, including the front fenders, grille, headlamps, bumpers, power dome hood, tail lamps, box design and flared rear fenders.

Engine choices range from the base 4.3L regular-cab V-6 engine rated at 195 hp to the 367hp 6.0L V-8 (available with Crew Cab and Extended Cab models) to the stump-'whumpin' 6.2L Vortec L92, rated at 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm, which can be had on Sierra Denali models. The most popular powerplant will likely remain the venerable 5.3L V-8, now rated at 315 hp and 338 lb-ft of torque and flex-fuel compatible across both platforms. Either the Hydra-Matic 4L65 or 4L70 four-speed automatics are the standard gearboxes, but extended-cab Sierras with the 6.0L will get the music-to-our-ears 6L80E six-speed automatic as an option in 2007.

Suspension is now an independent, control-armed coilover setup in front (good riddance, torsion bars), with a solid 8.6-inch rear axle located by leaf springs and monotube shocks that have been reangled outward for improved handling.

Silverado models are more spacious inside, with increased storage capacity. Spaciousness is enhanced with new, “low and forward” instrument panels. The instrument panel offered as part of the LTZ trim level is 5 inches lower and farther forward than the previous model. The WT and LT trim level features an instrument panel that is 3.5 inches lower and farther forward.

The pure pickup interior offered on WT and LT trim levels features larger controls and door handles that are easier to use with gloves. A large-capacity, double glove box is integrated into the instrument panel. Cloth seats are standard on WT and LT models; leather seating is available on LT models along with a six-way, power-adjustable driver seat. A new, lockable in-seat storage bin is built into a new 40/20/40-split bench; it is large enough to store a laptop computer and features a 12-volt power outlet. WT models are offered in a Dark Titanium interior color; LT models are offered in Ebony or Ebony/Light Titanium and Ebony/Light Cashmere combinations.

LTZ models feature a luxury-inspired interior with a unique instrument panel, door panels, larger-capacity center console that offers 20.1 liters of undivided storage and other distinct trim. A heated, 12-way, power-adjustable leather driver seat is standard, along with a six-disc CD/MP3-capable audio system, Bose speaker system and heated windshield washer system. Crew cab LTZ models add rain-sensing automatic windshield wipers, a rear-seat audio system and large glove box that offers approximately 5 liters of storage capacity. LTZ interior color schemes include Ebony, Dark Titanium/Light Titanium and Ebony/Light Cashmere combinations
