| The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo debuted in Shanghai, but the Detroit show marks the sedan's American debut. The new car, which according to GM shares only the windshield, two windows, and large sections of the body structure with the outgoing model, is a dramatic improvement over the previous Aveo. It's hardly going to set pulses racing, but the restyled Chevrolet Aveo--essentially a rebadged Daewoo from Korea--has a lot going for it. It will be cheap, for sure, but we are impressed by interior quality that is quite simply better than many a more expensive car in the General's U.S. armory.
The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo is a 4-door, 5-passenger family sedan, available in two trims, the LS 4-Door and the LT 4-Door.
Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 1.6-liter, I4, 103-horsepower engine that achieves 27-mpg in the city and 37-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, and a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional.
The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo is redesigned with a longer, taller and wider body, an improved suspension, a chrome-accented grille, three-dimensional headlights, available front fog lights and bold, round taillights, and a radio antenna that’s incorporated into the rear glass.
The interior receives an all-new premium interior design, a driver’s seat fold-down armrest, a standard auxiliary input jack for iPOD and other devices, new interior fabrics, and three design packages (choices of upholstery and complementary instrument panel and door trim accents in metallic grain, satin chrome, woodgrain appearance) are available. A number of options are available including a spoiler and an AM/FM stereo with CD/MP3 player. The LT receives standard dual power-adjusting heated outside rearview mirrors and a six speaker premium sound system with options for steering wheel audio controls.
The Aveo's safety equipment list is also quite long. Dual two-stage front airbags are standard, and like the Hyundai Accent side airbags are also included in base fare. The Chevy also joins the Accent in offering four-channel ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution as an option, although the Accent offers optional rear discs. The Aveo list goes on to include LATCH child-seat attachment, front seatbelt pretensioners and a five-star NHTSA safety rating - something that you won't find on very many spec lists.
