| The new BMW 3 Series Coupe will arrive in the U.S. with a choice of two six-cylinder engines including the world's first inline six with twin turbos, high precision fuel injection, and an all-aluminum crankcase. It is the most powerful engine within BMW's wide range of inline six driving machines that does not wear an "M" badge. This brand-new version develops maximum output of 300 hp in US-spec from 3.0 liters and generates peak torque of 300 lb-ft for powerful acceleration in any situation. The performance potential of this new 300 horsepower engine ensures that the 335i Coupe offers a significant improvement in performance while maintaining a level of efficiency for which the BMW 3 Series is renowned. In addition to the standard six-speed manual, both models will be offered with an available six-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission. Designed for responsiveness, the new automatic enhances driving dynamics without sacrificing fuel efficiency. An additional dimension of driving dynamics, with the benefit of outstanding traction, will be offered with the introduction of BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive. BMW xDrive is the most sophisticated and responsive all-wheel drive system on the market. It has proven its merits, in terms of agility and safety, in the ten models currently offered with xDrive in the U.S. Beginning this fall these merits will become available to Coupe drivers for the first time. The new coupe's exterior styling is based on the sedans’ but has distinctive visual elements. Aside from the lower roofline and sleeker profile with flowing character lines, the coupe is distinguished by a power-domed hood, different front grille, exclusive round quad headlamps and horizontal two-part LED taillights. The adaptive high-intensity xenon headlamps are standard on 3 Series coupes; they can pivot in conjunction with the car’s steering wheel to help illuminate the road around curves at night. The taillamps now incorporate so-called Adaptive Brake Lights that illuminate more brightly if the driver is making a panic stop or the ABS is engaged. As with the sedans, a redesigned interior is simple and tasteful, with instruments well positioned within sightlines and switches within easy reach. The coupes feature specific instrument clusters and are uniquely accented in pearl-gray chrome trim on the inside for a sportier appearance. The seats remain among the most supportive and comfortable in the industry. The coupe’s rear seat accommodates two passengers, though larger occupants will feel cramped. To help recover some of the headroom that’s otherwise lost by the more rakish roofline, the rear seating position is set lower than in the front; this, coupled with the small rear windows, could create a claustrophobic feeling in the rear and possibly make ingress and egress more difficult.
